A story about intuitive pathways. Featuring new work by Emelie Richardson. In these woven paintings, the formalism inherent to weaving is juxtaposed with intuitive mark-making. The underlying order of the warp and weft create a fundamental structure; a grid. Freeform patterns are painted in layers, loosely referencing the tidy framework and repetition of plainweave while simultaneously placing value on instinctual play, unpredictability, and inconsistency. The painted forms are organized but not orderly, intentionally embracing chance and lack of control, each layer a new perspective. Dimensionality emerges as the painted warp morphs, blurs, and dissolves into the weaving.
