Young In The Mountains is the atelier of artist and designer Mariele Ivy.

I learned from a young age that being an artist isn't about what you create, it's about how you live your life.

 As the daughter of a wooden boat builder & an avid gardener, my works have always been inspired by the symbiosis of humans & their environment. I was born and raised in Western Montana, where I spent my early life in the rivers and woods exploring and creating art inspired by my beautiful surroundings. It was in a 1920s barn-turned wooden-boat studio that I created my first jewelry piece at the age of 5. A thin blue ribbon strung through an oyster shell, simple and natural, a harbinger of what was to come.

Championing found materials and valuing a light footprint in regards to sourcing has been a pivotal and lifelong aspect of my creativity. As a true multidisciplinary artist, I am always exploring varied mediums like textiles, clay, and illustration in my hours out of the jewelry studio. These other experiments in craft hone my artistic eye and steady hand.  

I have built a reputation for creating innovative Montana sapphire and inlay jewelry with an eye for the unexpected details that inspire collectors across the globe. Young In The Mountains jewelry proudly champions Montana sapphires as well as recycled gold, diamonds, and we are pioneering the use of American-mined inlay materials exclusively in our collection.  Each piece is crafted with honor and respect for the environment.
