JESSYJO DARLING

Jessyjo Darling is an earth pigment artist dedicated to the craft of turning earth into paint using ancient techniques.

Born and raised in Western Australia, she is now based between Nevada and California, and collaborates with clients globally. Initially inspired by her grandmother Jo, an accomplished painter, who would commission planes to capture aerial photographs as a source of inspiration for creating abstract landscapes.

Jessyjo's work reflects the unhurried cadence of nature, meticulously crafted over time to form intricate layers. Her pieces aim to bridge the gap between the external world and our inner spaces, featuring symbolic motifs of swirling primal elements that give the incorporeal form through earth matter.

With use of chiaroscuro, she imbues her artwork with a sense of vitality and depth, transcending the two-dimensional plane. This technique invites viewers to be captivated and transported, enabling them to discover their own personal meaning and emotion.

Above all else, Jessyjo’s work aims to tell the story of the land through the color of its earth, and the millions of years of earthly history, found in a single piece of rock.

This recent body of work explores the colors of New Mexico’s vast landscape, Where Jessyjo explored in April of 2022. Captivated by the regions deep history and spiritual significance, the colors she collected during her journey have now told their story on canvas.

EXHIBITIONS AT FOLKLORE

  • A story about reverence. Featuring work by earth pigment painter, Jessyjo Darling and ceramic sculptor, Debra Fritts. This show bridges the gap between the earth and the heavens, illuminating the sacredness of all things. We witness a calmness in coming home to the earth and ourselves, knowing that source is ever present within us. In the quiet, in the spaciousness of contemplation, in devotion, we honor that we are all spiritual beings having a human experience.

    April 12 through May 27, 2024
